The first is that veterinary advances mean that the cost of vet fees is rising by around 12% per year(3). The second is that around 55% of cats and dogs are not insured(4), so owners cannot rely on an insurance policy to cover all or part of a vet’s bill and without this they may find it impossible to pay. Now with the Olympics approaching is a time the world can let China know that that they find this incredibly cruel. I have found this article on the matter but you can visit PETA's website for more detail.

"So here are millions of helpless cats and dogs and no one will come to their rescue but we will travel there to watch the Olympic Games. It amazes me that we -a country of cat and dog lovers seem helpless to do anything to stop this horror. Of course, if we do have the will, then what can we do? Some of you may do what I and others will do - we will boycott the Olympics. I will not watch them on TV. I hope that a lot of advertizing dollars will be lost as a result. Sadly, I doubt that many will take this action. I find we commiserate for a whole minute and then -it's over and back to business as usual."
2 Million Cats and Dogs Skinned Alive in China.

Stay tuned for more dog and cat news soon.

Randa
dogsandcats

Blogged with the Flock Browser

Dogs and Cats Get Along Just Fine

Today's dog and cat news features an article published in Live Science written by Stephan Reebs which is very interesting. When living under the same roof, the alleged antagonists often get along swimmingly, in fact—especially if they're introduced at a young age.

Neta-li Feuerstein and her graduate advisor, Joseph Terkel of Tel Aviv University, surveyed 170 Israeli households with both a cat and a dog as pets. They really do get so frightened with their amazing sense of hearing - that's much better than humans.

Doug Poindexter, president of the World Wide Pet Industry Association, said, "There are number of tips we have to try and help minimize stress by pets. First, bring your pets inside. Keep them in a room that is as sound resistant as possible" and then play music or the television there to drown out noise from fireworks. He added, "Make sure they have their favorite comfort items there — like toys and blankets — especially if you are going to leave them alone because you are going to a July Fourth party."As fireworks pop off, he suggests distracting pets to help keep them calm. "With my dog, I play catch with her favorite toy, or we play tug of war."
Deseret News | Scaredy cats & Almost 38 percent of owned cats never even see a veterinarian in the course of a year.

Make your own vow to take the same loving care of your cat that you do of your dog. Another great alternative is to call one of the mobile veterinary services to your home."

Cats versus dogs at the vet - Pets - The Oregonian - OregonLive.com

Stay tuned for more dog and cat news soon.

Randa
dogsandcats.com.au

Blogged with the Flock Browser

Are you a good pet owner? 10 Valuable Tips Shared.

In today's dog and cat news, Lynn Kalber shares the top 10 pet owner mistakes..
