Pet Zen: Homeopathic treatments could help heal cats and dogs

"Holistic treatments like acupuncture, Reiki and massage can work in conjunction with veterinarian visits, providing pain and stress relief for animals with arthritis, back, or hip problems, urinary tract infections, or more serious conditions like cancer. These treatments can also provide a healthy alternative to prescribed painkillers that can have negative side effects on animals."

Justice, a terminally ill black Lab, has been receiving Reiki and massage treatments from Julie Picardi at Boston Canine for the past month.

Taking Pets To Work

I found this news item with some useful tips when comes to taking your pet to work with you:

"Partly due to the proliferation of small businesses, more and more companies now allow pets in the workplace. And according to a survey by the American Pet Products Manufacturers Association, the benefits are many: a more productive work environment, lower stress, decreased employee absenteeism and employees willing to work overtime."

"If you're among the growing number of people who take their best friends to work, your Better Business Bureau offers a few guidelines that will ensure Bowser remains welcome:

> Dogs should be clean, well-groomed, and free of ticks and fleas.

> They must consistently behave well with other dogs and people.

> There should be a limit on potty incidents before they are banned.

> Dogs should not be wandering around and invading other workers' areas.

> Schedule appropriate times for feeding and walking.

Start with trust."

Mens Hair Growth Stimulants Toxic to Cats

Vets have warned men using hair growth stimulants to keep their pets away from their head after Luna, a Sydney cat went into heart failure after licking its owner's scalp.

Poor Luna got into quite a bit of trouble with congestive heart failure after licking the scalp of her owner Ed Dunn! It took them a while to figure out that the hair growth stimulant was to blame. Here's an excerpt:

"It is believed that veterinary journals detail only two other cases of cats accidentally consuming Minoxidil in the world. Both died.

"Just be aware this is potentially toxic to cats, as well as dogs," said Dr Cockwill, who admitted he was "very surprised" and had had no idea how dangerous the drug could be to pets.

Luna, who is recovering well and expected to go home today, is set to become famous."

Saudi vice squad bans sale of cats & dogs | kippreport.com

Today's dog and cat news is a bit on the unbelievable side.

Earlier this week in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, a ban was placed on the selling cats and dogs as pets, or walking them in public. The reason? It's because of men apparently using them to make passes at women. Not surprisingly, bloggers both inside and outside of Saudi Arabia have responded with disbelief.
