The odd couple: cats and dogs be friends

This study suggests dogs and cats really get body language.. Here's a snippet..

""Cats are from Mars and dogs are from Venus. Or the other way around. Everyone knows that they don't get along. But everyone also knows a story about the cat that adopted the puppy or the dog that cared for the kitten. Now, new research at Tel Aviv University, the first of its kind, has explored the phenomenon of harmonious interspecies relations and developed a model that, by extension, could be used by humans too."

How to avoid your pets fighting like cats and dogs | Mail Online

An interesting article.. They say:

"Experts interviewed nearly 200 people who own both a cat and dog and videotaped and analysed the animals' behaviour.

Results showed there was indifference between cats and dogs in 25 per cent of the surveyed homes, while aggression and fighting was observed in 10 per cent of the homes.

In homes where the animals got along, the cats and dogs had learned how to talk each other's language, said Professor Joseph Terkel."

In my house we have four cats and two dogs and they all get on just fine.. I personally think it's important to give attention to each of them regularly so luckily my partner and I can ensure they all feel truly loved.

English survey reveals 1.6 million pet owners have put their dogs and cats to sleep because they can't afford vet and medical bills

A disturbing article that states "Sainsbury’s Finance believes that there are two key reasons for this tragic problem. The first is that veterinary advances mean that the cost of vet fees is rising by around 12% per year(3). The second is that around 55% of cats and dogs are not insured(4), so owners cannot rely on an insurance policy to cover all or part of a vet’s bill and without this they may find it impossible to pay. Sainsbury’s Pet Insurance policy will pay up to £7,500 towards a vet’s bill."
