Are you a "cat person or a "dog person"- ? study released

In today's dog and cat news we share the results of a new study by Ball State University.

"The study of 266 pet owners found that a majority of cat owners see themselves as having cat-like personality traits, such as being independent and being at the center of attention, while most dog owners believe they have the characteristics of canines, such as being friendly and social."

You can also take part in the study by rating your dog's personality.

City Considering Mandatory Pet Sterilization

This is from a Chicago news item and i see in today's dog and cat news that Dallas is proposing something similar.

In Dalaas, an alderman is proposing the following:

"An ordinance making it mandatory for all pets to be sterilized, "because people are not living up to their responsibilities as pet owners," he said.

Exemptions would be made for breeders, who have to go through a criminal background check to get a license"

This is a universal issue and I know here in Australia laws have recently been passed making it mandatory to desex cats. Two cats undesexed can be responsible for the birth of around 60,000 off-spring over a period of 12 or so years. You can imagine the fate of many of those!

Buy Now Pay Later Pets..

In today's dog and cat news we see a disturbing article from our home town in Sydney - this Sydney Morning Herald article alerts the community that pet stores are offering cats, dogs and other species for sale on payment plans.

Unfortunately, animal campaigners do predict that this will lead to even more abandoned pets.

"Under the terms of the agreement, customers pay a 40 per cent deposit and the remainder over six months. They cannot bring the pet back or obtain a refund if it runs away or dies - nor are they entitled to compensation if the animal falls ill outside the 30-day "health guarantee".

Do you agree with this statement - "If a person can't afford the full cost of the animal in the first place, how are they going to afford the food, the upkeep and the vets' fees?"

We sure do!

Swiss dog owners will need to pass test

What are your thoughts on this story in today's dog news. It says:

"Dog owners in Switzerland will have to pass a test to prove they can control and care for their animal, or risk losing it, the Swiss government said yesterday."

Apparently, they've been trying to get this off the ground for many years and it looks like that laws will soon be passed.

Hope For 30 Feral Cats

In today's dog and cat news, it's great to see that these cats have some hope in life in this South Australian town.. Here is an excerpt from this article..

"Charles Sturt Council has backed away from its vote to have the 30 or so feral cats caught and euthanised, instead deciding to work with the RSPCA on options for removing the animals from the West Beach foreshore without actually having them killed."

Too busy to own a dog? - in London you can rent one..

In my search for dog and cat news, I found this article about a new company in the U.K. that rents dogs..

Here is an excerpt from the article:

"Living in London, with a garden not much bigger than a picnic blanket and a working day lengthened by a long commute, it seems unfair to own a dog. But wouldn't it be nice to have a furry friend to take for walkies?"
